SAR John Hancock Chapter Member - Benjamin H. DeJulia

Richard Nimocks was a sergeant in Malcolm Henry's Westfield company, one of eight companies in Colonel David Brewer's 9th regiment (20th Massachusetts Regiment), which served under the command of General John Thomas. This regiment was adopted into the Continental Army on 14 June 1775 and assigned to the main army under the direction of General Ward. Sergeant Nimocks also served at the defense of Boston during the Battle of Bunker Hill and during the siege of Boston, serving two months, three weeks, and two days, from 13 May 1775 to 1 August 1775.

Nimocks was one of Shay's men during the Shay's Rebellion, along with his brothers-in-law, Gad Sacket, Jared Plumb, Samuel Noble and Thomas Day (brother of insurgent leader, Captain Luke Day) and Jacob Noble. Richard Nimocks' wife, Zurviah Noble Nimocks, was Jacob Noble's first cousin. Another brother-in-law, Gideon Shepard served on the government's side. His brother, General William Shepard, defended the Springfield arsenal from the insurgents. Gad Sacket’s brother, Daniel, commanded one of the companies on the government's side. Richard Nimocks was Benjamin DeJulia's 6th great grandfather.
