Honor the Man Behind the Name — Help Build the Colonel James Findlay Memorial
Every day, we pass through the city of Findlay, Ohio, but few know the man whose name it carries. Colonel James B. Findlay (1770–1835) was a soldier, statesman, and frontier leader who commanded the 2nd Ohio Infantry during the War of 1812 and built the fort from which our city takes its name. His legacy of service ran in the family: his father, Samuel Findlay, served as Quartermaster of the 6th Battalion, Cumberland County Association, and came under fire at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse during the American Revolution.
Now the John Hancock Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution is working to give Colonel Findlay the recognition he deserves: a permanent statue in Hancock County honoring his service and the founding of our community.
You can help make it happen. The Colonel James Findlay Memorial Fund (CJFMF) supports the design and creation of this lasting tribute. Every gift brings the memorial closer to reality and helps preserve a piece of our shared history for generations to come.
➤ Donate today and become part of Findlay's story.
All donations are administered by the John Hancock Chapter, SAR, which retains a 3% administrative commission to support the project. Established 2026.
